Peri-Implant Mucositis

Peri-implant Mucositis is a reversible inflammatory process in the soft tissue surrounding a dental implant without the loss of marginal bone beyond normal resorption.  Generally peri-implant mucositis is a precursor to peri-implantitis. Evidence suggests that peri-implant mucositis may be successfully treated and is reversible if caught early.

Around an implant you may have an infection that occurs beneath the gum line and between the implant and the surrounding bone structure. Resolving this infection and restoring the solid connection between the implant and bone is extremely important for the long-term success of the implant.
